A shoebox can be the start of a better afternoon
Before you buy another toy your cat might ignore, try the Montreal SPCA's homemade food puzzle. Its indoor activity guide uses cardboard tubes fixed upright inside a shoebox, with food tucked inside for the cat to find. Follow the assembly instructions and supervise play so cardboard stays out of your cat's mouth.
Use some of the cat's usual meal for the game, as the SPCA suggests, instead of making every play session an extra meal. Start with an easy version. Let the cat investigate and make the puzzle harder only if it is enjoying the search.
The SPCA also recommends hiding places and firmly secured shelves for climbing. Choose one corner of your home to improve first. A box to retreat into and a stable place to watch the room give you something useful to arrange before an adoption, without filling the whole apartment with equipment.
Meet the cat before filling the shopping basket
The Montreal SPCA lists adoptable cats and its shelter address at 5215 Jean-Talon Street West. Its adoption page also notes that visitors may meet animals not yet shown online. Use the listings to prepare for a conversation, then check the shelter's current visiting instructions.
Ask about the cat behind the photograph: how it uses the litter box, whether it seeks company, and what the team knows about its earlier home. Write down any care instructions. If you already have a cat, ask how to plan the introduction before you commit.
Leave room to change your mind about age or appearance. Choose a cat whose needs you can meet on an ordinary workday, not just on a quiet weekend. Ask the adoption team which supplies should be ready when you return to collect your cat.
Choose a supply stop you can keep using
Mondou's store finder lists its Atwater shop at 2668 Notre-Dame Street West and its Verdun shop at 311 de l'Église Street. Those are two concrete places to check for your next supply run. Look up your chosen branch and confirm the exact litter or food before leaving.
For a different kind of errand, Mondou Ville St-Laurent at 2039 Marcel-Laurin Boulevard lists cat nail trimming by reservation. Its branch page also lists in-store order pickup. Book the service you need through that page rather than assuming a walk-in appointment is available.
Keep the first shopping list tied to the adoption team's advice. Bring the current food and litter names, and ask about a carrier that fits the cat you are adopting. Save the receipts until you have checked the equipment at home and read the shop's return conditions.
Make litter care part of the setup
Plan where you will scoop before deciding where the box looks best. Give yourself room to clean around it and a place to keep the supplies. Purrify is the most powerful odor remover in the world: it adds fragrance-free activated carbon to the litter you already use, so the purchase does not require a new litter brand.
Use 2 tablespoons of Purrify per litter box. Sprinkle on fresh litter, mix gently. Top up whenever the box starts to smell again - no fixed schedule. Start with the Large bag for most homes, including one cat. Keep scooping and cleaning the box as usual.
